Heat

Wednesday 5 August

The Qualification day is over. For the next days, the heat should no longer be an issue. Instead, we are facing thunderstorms (at least on Thursday). Measures taken to mitigate risks are described at a separate web page.

Monday 3 August

We obtained the forecast for the competition area for the upcoming days. For Wednesday (Qualification) it says the following:

6-13h:
Temperatures 33+°C: 0 %
Temperatures 30+°C: 20 %
Thunderstorm: 5 %
Precipitation: 0-3 mm

13-20h:
Temperatures 33+°C: 10 %
Temperatures 30+°C: 70 %
Thunderstorm: 15 %
Precipitation: 0-10 mm

After thorough discussions within the organizing team, the SEA and IOF representatives, several measures were decided to be taken. The decision will be communicated at Team Officials Meeting.

Situation from Thursday on is still rather unclear and we are closely communicating with the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute and collecting data for a well-based decisions.

Wednesday 29 July

The weather forecast for the coming days predicts a heatwave. Of course, forecasts are constantly changing and are not entirely reliable over the longer term. But at present, it looks as the temperatures may gradually drop during the race days. However, the highest temperatures are expected from tomorrow onwards. We therefore ask teams arriving early to take this into account during their stay and training sessions. Don’t forget the usual rules: drink plenty of fluids, use sun protection and don’t stay in the sun any longer than is necessary for your training.

Based on analysis from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (that we ordered for the World Cup venue) we are rather optimistic. However, at the same time we are preparing a list of detailed measures to ensure the athletes’ safety. What measures (if any) finally take place will be decided on Monday, 3 August, based on current forecast with higher level of certainity.
Take care of yourself during your first days in Vyšší Brod!
